Are you passionate about technology and eager to make a positive impact in your community? We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our exciting Digital Connect Project and help bridge the digital divide in North East Derbyshire.
Why This Project Matters: Digital exclusion is a significant issue, particularly for older, disadvantaged, and vulnerable individuals. Many people in our community lack the necessary digital skills and access to technology, leading to social isolation and difficulties accessing essential services. Our project aims to provide vital digital support, reduce social isolation, and improve the overall wellbeing of our community members by enhancing their digital literacy and confidence.

Working with local venues within North East Derbyshire we offer residents easy access to digital training. Focusing on the digital skills needed to safely benefit from and participate in and contribute to the digital world, including;

Using devices and handling information
Creating and editing
Communicating
Transacting
Being safe and responsible online

What will you do?
Show clients how to use digital devices and access digital services on the internet.
Help clients to understand how to stay safe online
Build clients` confidence
Keep records up to date
Support clients through 1-2-1, group or drop-in sessions
Engage with other volunteers to deliver training
Help to promote digital connect in North East Derbyshire

What do you need to have?
You don’t need any specific qualifications but you’ll need to;
have a commitment to promoting digital inclusion and reducing social isolation.

have excellent verbal and written communication skills
be able to understand complex information and explain it (verbally and writing) so that others understand it
have good IT skills including an understanding of IT devices and the internet

be willing to undertake training in your role
How much time do you need to give?
You will need to be able to commit 4-5 hours per week, for at least 3-6 months. If you want to give more time that is always welcome. Volunteers are a precious resource and any time given is most appreciated.

We have volunteering opportunities at various locations across North East Derbyshire.

Vegan Society Volunteer

Do you want to take part in vegan volunteering around your local area?

We have an ever-growing community network of vegans just like you, who have a passion to volunteer and promote veganism where they live. Every month, our network choose from a range of outreach tasks, these could include town centre stalls, writing to a Councilor or MP, sharing our campaigns on social media or contacting local businesses. You’re in control of how much or how little you do.

 Poppy Appeal Organiser for Chesterfield

The key responsibility of the PAO includes the ordering and distribution of all Poppy Appeal stock in advance of the launch, Thursday 22nd Oct 2026. They will also effectively manage the recruitment and deployment of a network of volunteers for the duration of the Poppy Appeal. The PAO is responsible for the safeguarding of all money collected during the appeal as well as the counting, prompt banking and fulfilling the correct accounting procedure post appeal, with support from me throughout the whole journey.

As I am sure you are aware volunteering overall offers a unique chance to develop interpersonal skills, team ethos and a sense of purpose whilst meeting like-minded individuals.

In addition, volunteering for the Royal British Legion allows individuals to connect with local veterans whilst actively contributing to our Armed Forces Community. We believe that every volunteer brings valuable skills and perspectives that can help us achieve our goals and make a positive impact.

Play and Enrichment Volunteer (Bluebell Wood)

About This Role:

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to
support the Enrichment Co-ordinator and/or Play Specialist. You will volunteer as part of a
team providing play and activities to babies, children and young adults within the hospice and
the wider community as part of our ‘Activity Outreach Service’. This is an exciting and
rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the families that are supported by Bluebell
Wood.

Key Tasks:

We require you to assist with:
• Supporting staff in their delivery of play and enrichment activities including scheduled
group work and workshops
• Preparing resources pertaining to play
• Maintain certain environments within the hospice for dedicated play/enrichment,
including display boards
• Support with tidying up after activities including stock replenishment
• Supporting effective communication with babies, children, young people and their
families to ensure they are well supported and included in all activities
• Supporting the Enrichment Coordinator and/or Play Specialist in visiting children and
young people in hospital or their home to provide bespoke play/enrichment activities

We do not require you to assist with:
• Nursing/Medical procedures
• Intimate personal care
• Record keeping.

We have a new outdoor area that includes a sensory garden and would love to hear from people who have an interest in gardening and helping to keep this area looking great for our visitors and the people who use the centre.

You’ll become part of a welcoming community who are passionate about helping others, and meet new people along the way. You would be giving vital support to our small charity. Don’t worry if you don’t have experience of volunteering – we are here to support your volunteer journey.

Fundraiser

Are you an enthusiastic volunteer looking for a new role where your work will really make a difference? Could you support an energetic local charity to write applications and secure vital funding?

We are excited to be seeking a new ‘Fundraiser’ to help Read Easy Sheffield, a successful local charity which provides free, confidential, one to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, affiliated to national charity Read Easy UK.

The ‘Fundraiser’ is a vital and interesting role within the Read Easy Sheffield Management Team to secure funding from local organisations, grants and trusts, that are interested in investing directly into their local community. This voluntary position will suit someone who enjoys writing, making new connections and championing what we do. You receive training and support from Read Easy UK to develop your fundraising skills, so while previous experience is desirable, it’s not essential.

This role is a crucial part of the Management Team as funding is essential for Coach training, expenses and resources – so you will play an instrumental part in making sure our group thrives!

What will you be doing?

–  With the Management Team, planning how much money is needed to cover group expenses and  agreeing best approaches to fundraising.

–  Writing applications to local community funding organizations and businesses.

–  Arranging fundraising events, as agreed by Management Team.

–  Maintaining a database of funding applications.

–  Making public acknowledgement and thanks to donors.

–  Attending monthly Management Team meetings.

The role is flexible and mainly home-based so you can choose your own hours. To get the most from the role, we would hope all Management Team roles would support Read Easy Sheffield for at least one year.

Fulfillment Volunteer

wishesjust4you is a Community Interest Company dedicated to helping children with life-limiting illnesses fulfil their heartfelt wishes.

We are seeking compassionate and organised volunteers to support our wish fulfilment process. This role involves working from home, handling email and phone communications, and helping to coordinate wishes for children across the UK.

Publicity Officer

Are you an enthusiastic volunteer looking for a new role where your work will really make a difference? Could you support an energetic local charity to reach new clients and volunteers?

Read Easy Sheffield is a successful local charity that provides free, confidential, one to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, affiliated to national charity Read Easy UK. We are currently looking to expand our work and for this we need some more volunteers to join our friendly management team, and we excited to be seeking a new Publicity Officer.

Publicity Officer is a vital and interesting role within the Read Easy Sheffield team to lead on the marketing and publicity of the Sheffield group. This will involve running social media accounts, creating posters and other graphics, and proactively seeking opportunities to promote our work.

This voluntary position will suit someone who has an interest in marketing and communications, enjoys social media, and can help to champion what we do. You’ll need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and able to write compelling communications. The main focuses of our publicity include reaching new readers, advertising volunteer roles, fundraising campaigns and advocating for our charitable work.

What you will be doing?

  • Working with the team to decide on the group’s publicity needs.
  • Creating content for your group’s page on the Read Easy website.
  • Setting up and maintaining the group’s Facebook page and other social media platforms to raise your group’s profile.
  • Organising the printing and placement of posters, leaflets, and other publicity materials.
  • Identifying any specific opportunities for publicity in the local media.
  • Attending Management Team meetings, once per month.

The role is flexible and mainly home-based so you can choose your own hours – you might spend around 2 hours a week on this. To get the most from the role, we would hope all Management Team members would support Read Easy Sheffield for at least one year.

The impact our work is down to advertising volunteer roles, reaching out to new readers and advocating for what we do – so you will play an instrumental part in making sure our group continues to thrive!

Village Games Volunteer (The Community Sports Trust)

 

Village Games Chesterfield is looking for a volunteer interested in working with adults to help with the set-up of a new walking football session. This will involve working with other volunteers and sports leaders to facilitate the session by taking registers and providing refreshments.

There will also be the opportunity to get involved in leading the warm up during the session. You will be fully supported and training will be available for those interested in becoming a sports leader. No knowledge of this fantastic new sport needed! Must enjoy meeting new people and supporting beginners to access a new sport.

There is no obligation for volunteers to join in and play but are very welcome to. A first aid certificate and any sports leader qualification would be preferable but training may be available. This session will be delivered outside at Eastwood Park, Hasland and appropriate clothing is advised.
