For many children and young people living in foster care can be unsettling. You can make a difference by volunteering as an Independent Visitor (IV). A Volunteer Independent Visitor acts as a positive role model. They meet with a child or young person once a month to offer support and encouragement. This is achieved by accessing fun activities in their local community together, this could be going out for some food, visiting the cinemas or a game of bowling. It makes a real difference to a young person to know they have someone who has chosen to be there for them and in return, you will gain valuable experience, skills and a sense of achievement as well as you will receive ongoing training, supervision and support. We have several young people waiting to be matched with an independent visitor, some of these young people are also based out of Nottingham. We currently have 2 females in Chesterfield looking for matches. We have two Leaving Care service offices which are open from 9am to 5pm: The Pod, Hunloke Avenue, Chesterfield S40 2NT and 46-47 Bloomsgrove Road, Ilkeston, DE7 8DQ
