(CNEDCU) is a not-for-profit
savings and loan provider for the community of Derbyshire. Established in 1988 we are part
of a worldwide “community bank” with each credit union operating independently within a
defined geographical area for the benefit of their Members.
An opportunity has arisen for the role of Audit Assistant within the organisation. This is a
voluntary role assisting the Chair of the Supervisory Committee in providing an internal audit
service to CNEDCU. The main purpose of the Supervisory Committee is to be the eyes and
ears of the members of the Credit Union and be responsible for the Internal Audit function.
The role of the Audit Assistant will be to carry out reviews of CNEDCU’s processes to
confirm that the policies and procedures of the credit union are being followed
provide the Board with a continuous appraisal of the overall effectiveness of the control
systems, including proposed changes.
recommend improvements where desirable or necessary.
determine whether internal controls established by the Board are being maintained and
operate as laid down in the policy, and comply with the relevant Acts, secondary
legislation, rules, policies, and procedures.
ensure that accounting records are prepared promptly and accurately, and that they are
in order.
assess whether financial and operating information supplied to the Board is accurate,
pertinent timely, and complete
This is an unpaid role with the appointee required to become a Member of CNEDCU. To
become a Member the appointee must work or live in Derbyshire.
Qualities
Experience of auditing or working in a financial role would be an advantage
Good financial analysis skills.
Time to invest in the role, equivalent of 2/3 days per month.
Understanding of credit unions and their regulatory and operating environment would
be an advantage.
