Website Derbyshire Voluntary Action
You can never re-create a first impression and here in our Community Hub, it’s essential that we get this right. We want newcomers to feel welcome, and for people to realise as soon as possible that they can contribute and support our community.
We need people to be alert to the front door, and ready to welcome people with a friendly smile and an easy conversation about their interests, passions, to help understand what they are looking for. The welcomer will keep an eye on our refreshments and empower others in the space to make sure they are available to everyone. It’s also important that someone is aware of anyone who has become isolated in the space and may need help to connect with others.
Key responsibilities include:
● Covering an allocated weekly shift: Attend The Hub on a weekly basis, during a morning or an afternoon shift.
● Joining in with the activities: the flow of newcomers in The Hub can be unpredictable, and we’ve learnt that joining in the activities in between welcoming people is more supportive to our community than observing
● Becoming familiar with our signposting information: Sharing the information we have with people using the space and escalating any gaps with the DVA staff team, and the Hub Community Signposting team
● Staying up to date with Hub Guidance and Procedures : Referring to The Hub Handbook and supporting others to do so also.
We are particularly looking for people with a positive attitude and an interest in helping others. You will need confidence to start up conversations with unfamiliar people, a friendly and warm manner and an open minded and respectful attitude towards diversity.
