Social Media Volunteer 

Role Summary -Hardwick Hall

Can you tell a good story in 140 characters? Do you enjoy creating engaging content for social media? Are you good at taking photographs, recording short videos and creating reels.

By getting involved, you could…  

  • Share the conservation work taking place on site and promote Hardwick halls programming offers on our social media platforms.
  • Engage new and existing audiences with our properties and future project work and help us grow support for our work as a charity.
  • Use your creativity and skills to produce amazing images and videos.
  • Use and develop skills in content creation, including video and social media posts.
  • Gain practical insight into the digital world of social media and content creation.
  • Have your work seen by a large audience.
  • Assist and learn more about creating social media content for local, national, and internal audiences, and 
  • Join an enthusiastic, varied team, and meet new people. 

What’s involved?

  • Helping us to develop content for our social media channels, specifically Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), and communicate this to our audience.
  • Content creation and coordination and scheduling of posts]
  • Working closely with our senior marketing and communications officer. 
  • Building relationships on-site to understand the work we do at Hardwick Hall & Stainsby Mill and to communicate this to our audience.
  • Social media evaluations – what worked, what didn’t?
  • Support us with sense checking and proofreading before we share.
  • Helping us to manage social media accounts and keep them up to date.
  • Recording and photographing conservation work in action on site and transforming it into engaging content
  • Keeping in touch with the team so you know about any events that are happening.
  • Supporting our communication strategies including video production and literature.
  • There might occasionally be some other activities that are of interest to you, that we could use your help with.
  • Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to government guidelines e.g .Covid
  • Travel expenses will be provided

We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us.   So, volunteers will: 

  • Be provided with the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely
  • Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering.
  • Have remote access to support, news and rotas via our volunteer website

This role will suit you if you are … 

  • Someone who enjoys meeting people.
  • A flexible and adaptable team player.
  • A self-motivated person, who can think and volunteer independently.
  • A genuine interest in social media and charities/ the charitable sector.
  • IT literate – confident when using Microsoft Office and social media platforms, especially Facebook and Instagram
  • Someone who has good communication skills (written and oral) and have an understanding of different audiences and how to communicate with them.
  • An individual who can think and volunteer independently.

All National Trust volunteers will be asked to  

  • Respect and uphold the National Trust values whilst volunteering with us 
  • Complete training required of all NT volunteers and any role specific training
  • Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity
