Minibus driver – Weston Park Cancer Charity Transport Service

Weston Park Cancer Charity is here to support anyone facing cancer. Our services, advice, therapies and support are for those with cancer and the people close to them, helping everyone to live with and beyond cancer. It’s our job to care in every sense for our patients and their families. The funds we raise also support vital, pioneering research and clinical trials led by the exceptional medical experts at Weston Park Cancer Hospital.

At Weston Park Cancer Charity, we provide a free, safe and reliable Transport Service to people throughout the region who need to come into Sheffield for their cancer treatment. You will drive our minibuses to and from their depots and pick-up points to bring cancer patients to their appointments at any of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (primarily Weston Park Hospital). You’ll volunteer closely with our Transport Team (who coordinate the passenger lists) to ensure all patients arrive on time. Between journeys, you’ll be invited to wait in our Charity Hub at Weston Park Hospital, and alongside other volunteers you’ll contribute to the warm and supportive environment there. You may occasionally be asked to drive the minibuses to garages for MOTs, repairs and maintenance.

We require volunteers in this role to be over 21, have a full UK driving licence, and be able to drive manual transmission vehicles. We also look for people who are friendly, want to help people, are organised and punctual, and enjoy making a difference.

We are looking for people who can commit to driving approximately once a week or once a fortnight. We offer either full days (approx. 9am-5pm) or half days (approx. 9am-1pm / 1pm-5pm) and these can be flexible.

Once a volunteer has expressed an interest in this role, we would have an informal conversation about how the service works and whether it sounds like something they would like to progress with. From there we have an induction process that includes a DBS check, training with an established driver and an induction with both our Volunteering and Transport Teams.
