Peak District National Park Authority

Purpose of role: Undertake minor maintenance works on the trails, mostly on a bike

Location of position: Parsley Hay and Tissington

Volunteer responsibilities

  • Cycle patrol/working
  • Minor cutting back of trees and scrubs
  • Litter picking
  • Keeping trail clear
  • Cleaning and checking trail signage
  • Minor drainage works
  • Reporting bigger jobs that cannot be done by volunteer
  • Engaging with the public (answering questions, giving directions and being helpful)
  • Check abseil licences
  • Assist visitors with pay and display machines
  • Other potential tasks completed alongside trails rangers

Essential skills you would need for the role:

  • Ability to ride a bike
  • Like interacting with the public and other people
  • Basic knowledge of trails and Peak District National Park

Desirable skills that will assist you in the role:

  • Previous use of hand tools
  • Interest in the countryside and nature conservation
  • Experience or confidence in giving directions
  • Knowledge of basic bike fixing
