Could you support someone through what may be one of the most difficult days of their life?
Victim Support’s Witness Service is looking for volunteers to support victims and witnesses of crime before and during their time at court.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll help people feel safe, informed and supported by:
- Providing emotional reassurance and practical support
- Explaining court procedures and what to expect
- Showing witnesses around the courtroom before a trial
- Accompanying witnesses into the courtroom where permitted
- Signposting people to other sources of support when needed
- Working alongside court staff and other Witness Service volunteers
What we’re looking for
You don’t need to be an expert in the criminal justice system. We’re looking for people with excellent communication skills who are comfortable speaking with people face-to-face, by telephone and by video call.
Time commitment
1 day per week, approximately 9am–5pm.
Ideally, volunteers will be able to stay in the role for at least 12 months, helping provide consistency for the people the service supports.
Training and checks
Full role-specific learning is provided, including e-learning and three days of facilitator-led training. Training takes approximately 12 weeks to complete.
A DBS check and other background checks are required for this role.
